Today we drove across the border into Portugal. An interesting drive, back country, with small towns, olive groves and plantations of cork trees. Some heavy showers, similar to spring or autumn in Vic or Tas.
Monsaraz, because it's off the beaten track a little, and quiet. The town should be called Rocksville, because everything here is made of rocks, and it sits on top of a rocky hill. It's really pretty. Storks are nesting on some of the high structures, such as church towers and power pylons.
I wondered how this would go for town planning in Oz; about 7 metres or higher, no rail, and hundreds of tourists every day. I like it.
How would you feel, it's an 800 year old wall, and someone cut it to fit an ATM. I guess it's true, there's plenty of wall.
A good example of the rock paving that forms every street and footpath in town.
Lovely colours of the lichens and epiphytes that grow here.
One view of our room for the night. It's excellent, tons of atmosphere.
Last one, I love the way the houses blend into the supporting rock. Tomorrow, back to the city bustle, this time Lisbon.

Thanks for taking the time to blog. Really nice photos, they give you a feel for the town. Where are all the people?
