Transit of France: Bergerac

We are now in Paris, after spending two nights in Bergerac, and one night in Orleans. The weather was mostly cool to cold, and frequent rain, which really limits some of the enjoyment. We were very happy that we chose Bergerac; it's in the Dordogne region, which I think is the quintessential region of France. It has the old houses, villages, chateaux, rivers, forests, truffles, cave paintings, etc.

Our hotel was out of town, in a village called St Laurent des Vignes, 55 euro per night for the two of us, with breakfast. Quite quirky, a very old house, clean enough, decorated in a pretty typical French style. The mattress had a dip in it, which was replaced next day, then the internet failed. But, cheap enough, and an experience.

After Bergerac, we had a quick stop in Orleans, to position for the last short drive to Paris. Nothing to report, really, Orleans probably does have some interesting features, it's on the Loire, and the start of the  chateaux trail. Plenty of more interesting places to visit first, though.

Bedroom for night, nice big window, and creaky wooden floor, with some pretty interesting plumbing.

Exterieur view

Looking out the window, wishing those cherries would ripen a few days earlier.

Looking down the vast vineyard to the village.

Looking up the hill, away from the village.

Memories.......must say, the car suits this setting, at least a bit better than Newcastle.

 Une place de Bergerac.....

Cyrano de Bergerac....

et le parking de Bergerac.....I included this to give you an impression of the Dordogne River, swollen from the recent rain.

Back on the bus...no more car. We did 4335 not all care-free kms in the 208 (bit nerve wracking caught in a endless maze of tiny streets in Seville with seemingly no escape); it was great to have the freedom. We returned the car at CDG, got a lift across to terminal 1 to pick up Zoe, who flew up from Athens in the morning.
The girls are heading into Paris, at least they look happy enough. The car; I expected a lot, it was very good, especially all the it/electronics, but I wouldn't buy it. I can't really identify why I don't warm to it, perhaps it's a bit small.
The weather has turned for the better, fine days of around 20 degrees forecast, it is lovely to just be here.
